Fall 2021

September 7th, 2021

Happy September to all our Town Duck friends!

It has certainly been a good, long while since I sat down to drop a note. I wish that weren’t the case-- that Summer didn’t fly so quickly and that there was maybe an hour or two longer in the day to make time. I know whatever season of life we find ourselves in now, we can all relate to having felt this way at some point in life. I write having just crossed off the last back to school items for our children—outfitting new tennis shoes, trying to acquire graph paper (who new a scarcity?!) and nailing down the required reading book that a certain trio has known about all Summer but would rather live on the edge and come in under the wire (in their defense, they do have three full days to achieve and I believe procrastination is a totally healthy quality!)

Truth be told, how lucky to have this to-do list for our children. Things remain so unsteady, uncertain and unknown in the world. I am grateful for familiar tasks like back-to-school shopping, attending my brother-in-law’s 40th birthday party this past weekend with friends and family, having a quiet and delicious evening out to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Full calendars with obligations (some fun, others not) used to exhaust me. How to schedule it all and not feel depleted. Balance elusive. And then the calendar seemed to freeze. I remember not once flipping the calendar month after March 2020 until I how to schedule a doctor’s visit. Where did those months go? I felt desperate to pull out a sharpie and mark up the weeks with things to do.

I love September. It feels like the equivalent of a New Year’s Day to me. Fresh start, routines to embrace, holidays in the not-so-distant future. While we all know better than to think the Virginia heat won’t rear again, there is a hint of something cooler and crisper out there. I feel it in the shop, too.  Fourth quarter arrivals are making their way to 100 Main Street, and they sure look great. We continue to expand our baby and ladies sections with a Fall twist (Scarlette Atelier, Moismont silk and wool scarves, Mer Sea sweaters), food and wine are hitting Autumnal notes (think Pumpkin Chèvre and delicious Pinot Noir’s to transition), and there are so many beautiful things to outfit your home (Laura Park pillows, alpaca stadium blankets, throws and wraps, lamps for that little table in your study…), gift your host, or celebrations! I can’t tell you how exciting is has been to wrap wedding gifts!! There was a real hiatus from this over the last year and I am so happy to see the shift. There is simply too much to write here. Continue to follow our newsletter, weekly fish emails and social media (Instagram and Facebook) for regular comings and goings of the shop. With that said…. here’s my “New Year” resolution:

I look forward to sending a consistent, monthly newsletter to say hello and let you know what’s new and fun at The Town Duck. We have tweaked the shop website (www.townduck.com) to offer a little more to keep you in the know.  Under the tab “NEW!”, you will find a regular grouping of my three favorite things (some new, others steady, tried and true staples)—NEST! FEAST! TOAST! My hope is that this will offer a fun and fresh link between the shop and US! And because I have now sent this out to the universe (well at least our MailChimp subscribers!), head over and check out what’s NEW!
