Summer 2021

The Duck Bill,

July 1, 2021

Happy Summer!

It has been an embarrassingly long while since I last dropped an email to you that was not “Fish + Wine…” I apologize. I am afraid I continue to operate in a bit of ‘survival mode’ as it relates to the shop, family, life, etc. As the Summer season sends us into the Fourth of July weekend, I suspect for myself, at least, the pendulum has pleasantly slid to the side of optimism.  Hurray for visitors daily in the store, less apprehension about our dance with proximity, and confident orders for gatherings that will need the basics which sadly (and understandably) seemed to disappear last Spring. If I am being honest, I was not sure what to do with the excitement and momentum of being a proud and new owner of The Town Duck as it collided with a shift in life as we and the world knew it.

Happy to report, it has been the exact journey into entrepreneurship I was meant to have. My learning curve continues to humble me in the process of getting product to table, and I love all of it. While I make every effort to share daily photos of what’s new in the shop (via Instagram and Facebook), it doesn’t quite match an in-person visit. So…..some new and notable items:

You may notice a hand block print theme with our linens for the kitchen and table, beautiful toiletry bags with whimsical bugs and serpents, linen pillows and napkins…I gravitate towards this casual but artful and simple addition to entertainment. It is a nice way to up your game with ease. Leopard Ice Buckets and FUN re-usable POOL/LAKE/BEACH cups are easily cast into hand-woven totes for the afternoon. Campo di Fiori terracotta and fern garden planters (tough to keep in stock!) and Dana Gibson trellis planters are perfect to gift AND display your green thumb. A complete summer line-up for baby with darling rompers and dresses (Kissy Kissy, Pehr Baby, Pemberly, Jacaranda, Angel Dear), lovely Summer-weight nightgowns and robes, fun Printfresh Pajamas and fabulous lounge/day pieces from Pomegranate (ladies XS-XL) keep you stylish and cool.

There is simply too much to write about food + wine here. Frankly, swing by and chat. I LOVE talking about what is new and how to pair wine with meals…especially if it requires a weekend line-up for guests. I also am happy to chat over the phone or facetime a call to work through details. As the pace of life scales towards normal, so does our “to do list.” Let me tell you, I love a good list. And perhaps more tellingly, I love to check it off!

In the end, I must say our family week off was afforded only by the grace and grit of Anne. I am learning there is no greater gift than leaving your ‘baby’ in (capable—in this case, exceptionally capable-hands!) Bravo!!! and XOXO

We will enthusiastically look forward to your next visit in!
